Your Opportunity
Our Tempe, Arizona Mining group has an immediate need for a Mechanical Project Engineer to supervise our local mechanical team and serve various clients in completing feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects for underground and surface mining operations.
As a Mechanical Engineer and senior contributor on our professional consulting services team, your role is to work independently on large projects of high complexity, and/or as a leader of a team or project through all phases of a project lifecycle. You are responsible for developing and implementing an engineering discipline group equipped with up-to-date engineering and design tools and innovations, technical and supervisory capabilities and operating procedures to successfully and efficiently execute projects and consulting services resulting in client satisfaction and on-time delivery.
Your Key Responsibilities
HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • You are expected to understand and work according to the requirements of the Company Safety Culture. As a Discipline Engineer you are expected to make a personal commitment towards preserving the health and safety of all our employees. You will demonstrate your commitment to safety on a daily basis through actions and involvement in our employees’ work, by ensuring compliance to the company safety programs and initiatives, and strictly adhering to rules, regulations and procedures. Your personal commitment to safety will help us achieve our ultimate goal of zero harm within our operations.
  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Company and its Clients.
  • Ensure all applicable safety codes, regulations and guidelines are met by appropriate design and use of technology.
  • Review and analysis of drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issue to clients.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide supervision, leadership, mentorship and training to discipline engineering and design staff.
  • Coordinate project delivery by communicating with engineers, designers, project managers, and other support staff to ensure mechanical discipline deliverables are produced according to safety, quality, schedule and budget objectives.
  • You must be self-motivated and eager to fulfill the roles of engineering and design supervisor, discipline engineer, and critically, business development. You must continuously seek out new work and opportunities with new clients, as well as maintaining relationships with existing and past clients. You are the type of person who instinctively keeps your finger on the pulse of the industry.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • You will provide clients with engineering support to meet their needs and incorporate client suggestions for future requirements in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner. This includes attending client meetings, which may at times be remote, as well as corresponding directly with the client.
  • You must be a self-starter with the ability to handle change and work with minimal supervision. You must be an introspective person who is willing to challenge your own work as well as the work of those around you.
  • You will allocate resources to satisfy project schedules and priorities and manage the simultaneous delivery of multiple projects, applying innovative approaches with regard to methodologies, designs and implementation formats to maximize the safety and quality of our work.
  • You will lead a team of engineers and designers in the planning and execution of project work including scoping, asset integrity assessments and as-built documentation, feasibility studies, detailed engineering and technical support during construction and commissioning.
  • You will regularly interface with other disciplines and departments to execute projects.
As the ideal candidate, you have:
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere including involvement in technical business development.
  • Previous experience as a Lead Engineer on detailed engineering/construction projects with a consulting firm or Owner’s team;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and project engineering experience.
  • Ability to take the lead on a project team is essential.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites or other Company offices (10% travel).
  • Previous experience in factory acceptance testing, brownfield condition assessments, commissioning, or operations support.
Technical expertise in one or more of the following areas is desired, with preference given in sequential order as follows:
Mine Services:
  • Specification and design of Dewatering, Fuel Delivery, Compressed Air, Process Water, Slurry systems, and selection of associated equipment;
  • Underground Infrastructure facilities design;
Mine Processing Plants:
  • Specification and design of Milling, Refining and Smelting operations, including solution mining and solvent extraction/electrowinning experience;
Experience with the following will also be considered as assets:
  • Mine Hoisting;
  • Mine Ventilation/Refrigeration;
  • Material Handling Systems;
Education and Experience
A Professional Engineering license in the State of Arizona.
10 - 15 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
